Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Are Reportedly 'Desperate' To Stay Relevant

It's been about six years since the famously controversial couple stepped away from their royal duties as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, leaving their lifestyle with the royal family in the UK, and moving to California for a somewhat more 'normal' existence.

After a handful of bombshell interviews and a few months out of the spotlight for privacy, Harry and Meghan have been back out in the world, traveling for charity appearances, posting on social media, and more. The Suits alum more notably has made a name for herself in the Netflix world, starring in her own at-home DIY series, With Love, Meghan, and having them partner with her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

However, those projects have gradually been dissolving, starting with Netflix choosing not to renew her and Harry's $100M contract to create content, her series not getting a third season, and their decision to separate from As Ever. Additionally, the lifestyle brand has been getting some backlash related to certain products. This has all contributed to the couple struggling to keep themselves relevant and successful, according to esteemed royal author Tom Bower.

"They are desperate to make sure they don't go under and finding ways in which they can somehow prove still relevant," he said on the Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered podcast. "That isn't easy because, frankly, they're not relevant other than the potential damage they can do to the royal family in Britain."

Harry And Meghan Are Not 'Earning Any Real Money,' Author Claims

According to the royal author, who has spoken to inside sources with connections to various members of the monarchy, the financial situation the Harry & Meghan stars are facing is more dire than some may assume.

The author's reports suggest that their latest business ventures, as well as their return to public speaking engagements and charity events around the world, haven't brought them as much security as they had allegedly hoped for. Bower claims that panic is starting to set in, and the couple is having to think of ways to not only uphold an established reputation, but also earn enough money to keep themselves and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, living a more 'normal' yet still luxurious lifestyle in California.

"I think that their whole operation, which is now poorly financed because they're not earning real money anymore, is survival," he added. "It's fascinating to watch how they [are slowly] falling. I mean, there's no doubt the descent is much more interesting now than the ascent. And that may be prolonged. We don't know yet."
