Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s daughter Lilibet Diana was born on June 4th, 2021, in Santa Barbara, and therefore 18 months old now – but many people still haven’t gotten over her name, as sources have suggested that there is still a lot of controversy surrounding it within the royal family!

Royal Family Reportedly Found Lilibet’s Name Choice ‘Bewildering’
Although Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, chose the name Lilibet to honor his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, by choosing a personal nickname that her own father King George VI lovingly gave her when she was a child as she struggled to say her own name, many members of the royal family reportedly found it “bewildering” and “rather presumptuous” to use such a deeply personal nickname for the late monarch for their own daughter. Especially as she was born just a few months after their infamous Oprah Winfrey interview, whereby they seemed to trash the royal family on several occasions.

The Late Queen Elizabeth II Thought The Name Seemed ‘Just Right’
The late Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8th earlier this year, however, was not one of those people, and she actually thought it was a great choice for her grandson and granddaughter-in-law’s daughter, who is most often referred to as ‘Lili.’
Royal expert Gyles Brandreth recalled Her late Majesty’s opinions on the name in his new book, Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, revealing that she thought it was “very pretty and seems just right.” Aww!
"According to the Sussexes, Harry sought his grandmother’s permission to use her family nickname as the Christian name for her eleventh great-grandchild," Brandreth wrote in his book. "The Queen’s recollection was a little different. According to the Queen, Harry told her the Sussexes wanted to call the baby 'Lilibet' in her honor and she accepted their choice with good grace, taking it as the compliment it was intended to be."
"Others in the family found the choice 'bewildering' and 'rather presumptuous,' given that Lilibet as a name had always been intimately and exclusively the Queen’s," he added in his book, which came out on December 8th, the same day that Prince Harry and Meghan's Harry & Meghan docuseries premiered on Netflix.
