Royal Expert Claims Prince Philip Compared Meghan Markle To A Controversial Figure In Royal Family History
The late husband of former Queen Elizabeth II was said to have been a good man who typically stayed out of royal family rifts, but when Meghan Markle entered their world, it looks like he couldn't help but throw in a few jabs during her time in the U.K.
Grandfather to Prince Harry, Meghan's husband of seven years, Philip, allegedly also had a bit of a difficult time accepting their relationship, as the couple eventually pulled away from the official royal lifestyle.
Even if he didn't outwardly display any feelings of disdain towards her, a royal author has claimed that he often referred to her by a rather petty nickname. Ingrid Sewerd, a royal author and expert who has been writing about the royal family for years, claimed that Prince Philip was reminded of the Duchess of Windsor when he met her.
"While the Queen continued to champion Harry's new love, he warned his wife to be cautious," wrote Ingrid.
"It was uncanny, he told her, how much Meghan reminded him of the Duchess of Windsor."
Meghan's Relationship History Was Allegedly Compared To Wallis Simpson By The Royal Family
Wallis Simpson was a very interesting figure in royal family history, as she was an American socialite whom Prince Edward, the Duke of Windsor, fell in love with. Being that she was a twice-divorced American woman, Prince Edward was essentially forbidden from marrying her not long after taking his place as King Edward VIII.
In 1936, Edward abdicated the British throne in order to marry Wallis, which led to Queen Elizabeth's father, King George VI, taking over, which subsequently led to her taking the throne. Since then, Wallis has been a very controversial person, and Ingrid claims Prince Philip was reminded of her when he met the Duchess of Sussex. The mom-of-two was briefly married to film producer Trevor Engleson from 2011 to 2013 before meeting Prince Harry.
"He wasn't simply referring to the fact that both were pencil-slim, dark-haired and glamorous American divorcees," she explained.
Ingrid also alleged that when he wasn't fully calling the mom-of-two the 'Duchess of Windsor,' he'd also refer to her as DoW for an abbreviation. In a television interview, she added that Prince Philip "was very canny about people and he didn't always see the bad in them, he tried to see the good in them."
"There are so many similarities, which is why he used to call her The Duchess of Windsor, I mean, not to her face," she said.
