There’s been a lot going on with the royal family these days, but as time passes, many are focused on what the future may look like when Prince William ascends the throne following his father, King Charles.

Over the last few months, more royal family enthusiasts have been wondering when Prince William and Kate Middleton will become the next King and Queen of England, and if his father, King Charles III, will step down to let his son take over. Insiders have been reporting that preparations for the transition are underway, and a royal biographer is noting that when they take over the throne, William and Kate’s era of reign could look a lot “different” than what it is today. Royal Biographer Notes That King Charles Had Goals Of 'Slimming Down' The Number Of Working Royals

Over the last few years, particularly since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, her son, King Charles, has made a few changes, following a slightly different standard than what his mother did during her 70 years on the throne.

According to royal insiders and biographers, the 77-year-old wanted to focus on minimizing the number of royals who were actively working, in order to make their faces not only more recognizable, but more accountable over time. Though there hasn't been a ton of progress on that front, the stripping of the former Prince Andrew's title was an indicator that he was comfortable with narrowing down the monarchy.

"There's been a lot of talk about a slimmed-down monarchy for many, many years, and certainly, if you looked at what Charles's view of that was maybe 10 years ago, it would have been Harry at the center," royal biographer Russell Meyers told Us Weekly. "It does look a little bit thin on the ground at the moment, but I think what the King wanted to do was try to make the royal family much more accountable."

Prince William & Kate Middleton's Era Of Ruling Will Reportedly Look 'Very Different'

As the current king works through his cancer diagnosis, which is looking a little less severe after he revealed he would be scaling back his treatment, folks have been curious as to whether or not he will choose to step down from the throne in the next year or so. Though some sources have said Charles is in no rush to move over, the palace is still allegedly making moves to get ready for a new era for the monarchy through the Prince and Princess of Wales, who, apparently, will bring some changes. There's also a lot of pressure on the couple as "tension" continues to rattle their relationships with the estranged Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

"[They] have a totally different vision for the monarchy," revealed Meyers. "It needs to be accountable, it needs to speak to the younger generation, not only at home, but abroad. It also needs to create a system that works for the people, and certainly what they have tried to do is get their family home life right and then work on the public profile, and that's very, very different to how the monarchy has been structured in generations beforehand."

Other royal experts and reporters seem to be optimistic about the future, as well as the famous couple's abilities to work hard while also connecting with various generations.

"Prince William combines a strong sense of responsibility with a more informal and approachable manner that connects with many of the young people he meets," royal photographer Chris Jackson told Vanity Fair. "The Princess of Wales has a warmth and friendliness with many of the people she meets and is very natural with young people, always putting herself at their level and taking time to chat. Often, walks greeting the public are lengthened because she tries to meet as many people as possible."
