We already know that Prince William and Kate Middleton want to give themselves a good work/life balance, as proven by recent reports that claim they often say “no” to royal engagements so as not to overdo it.

And the same goes for prioritizing family! According to reports, the Prince and Princess of Wales seemingly put family above royal duty, which is why they waited a while to tell firstborn Prince George about his future in the royal family.

Prince William And Kate Middleton Wanted Prince George To Have A 'Normal Childhood' For As Long As Possible

The Prince and Princess of Wales reportedly didn't tell their son, who turned 12 years old in July, that he is in fact the future King of England until he was around seven years old, as they wanted him to have a "normal" childhood for as long as possible.

"He really has had a period of a normal childhood," royal author Robert Lacey told People, while adding that Prince William may have chosen to do so due to his own experiences.

"William deliberately delayed this news until the last possible moment," Lacey continued, adding: "It shows special care and thoughtfulness – it also tells us something about how William felt about the weight of the crown."

Prince William Wants To Ensure His Children 'Enjoy' Royal Duty, Not 'Fear' It

Royal biographer Robert Hardman also echoed this, and confirmed: "William takes his role as father of the future king as seriously as he takes his role as future king. That's key."

He also went on to say that the Prince of Wales is very careful and strategic with how he talks about royal life with his children – including Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 – adding: "His overarching priority is making sure they enjoy it rather than fear it."

Lacey concurred: "I imagine that when William talks to George about things like this, he uses words like 'destiny' rather than 'duty.' 'Duty' has a sense of being trapped; 'destiny' has a sense of choice." That makes sense to us!
