Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey last spring was one of the most memorable and jaw-dropping pop culture moments in all of 2021. As many can recall, of the most unexpected stories Markle shared included the Duchess of Cambridge, and this reportedly upset her husband, Prince William.

The Duchess of Sussex recounted a story in which she was at a bridesmaid dress fitting with Kate Middleton in 2018 before her iconic wedding in May of that year. Markle said that Middleton made her cry and it was *not the other way around,* as was previously reported. Markle also clarified that Middleton was a “good person” and said she apologized for making her teary-eyed.
Royal family expert Tina Brown is set to release a new book out April 26, titled The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor—The Truth and the Turmoil. According to Brown, Markle making this private moment between her and Middleton public “disgusted” Prince William. This, Brown said to the Telegraph, via the Mirror, was largely since Markle “knew” Middleton wouldn’t be able to respond back.

Brown, who was friends with Princess Diana decades ago, also said she believed that tension between Markle, Prince Harry and his other royal relatives could worsen with the younger prince’s forthcoming memoir being released later this year. Brown also apparently thinks Harry won’t bad-mouth his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, or Middleton, as the insider said he is “very fond” of his sister-in-law. However, Brown anticipates that Harry will use the book to “go after” his father Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, who she said Harry “can’t stand.”
“William was disgusted about Meghan’s attack on Kate, because she can’t answer back,” Brown said to the Telegraph,“But that’s nothing compared to how furious he’s going to be when this book comes out.”

In the interview with Winfrey, Markle said that the bridesmaid fitting incident was when “everything changed, really,” regarding her experience in the spotlight and introduction into the royal family. “What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do, but that happened to me,” she said at that time.
