Prince William reportedly wants to restore the late Princess Diana’s HRH title, but may have to wait until his father, King Charles, passes away to do so.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the Prince of Wales was considering posthumously restoring his mother’s royal title to mark the 30th anniversary of her death in August 2027. However, King Charles was reportedly “enraged” by the idea, as he feared it would reopen one of the most painful chapters in the royal family’s history.
Now, a new report claims William is considering waiting until he ascends the throne to make the move, rather than asking his father to reverse the decision. He is also said to be willing to wait, as he reportedly doesn’t want to turn the anniversary into a competition with his estranged younger brother, Prince Harry, who is rumored to be working on a documentary about Diana with Meghan Markle. Prince William Reportedly Plans To Wait Until He Becomes King To Restore Diana's Title As It Will 'Enrage' His Father
According to a new report from RadarOnline, William is keen to avoid further tension with Harry, especially amid separate reports that he may be "willing" to finally meet up with his brother in a bid to end their yearslong royal feud.
A source claimed William is "reluctant to turn the anniversary into a competition with Harry, who has discussed the possibility of producing a documentary examining their mother's life and legacy."
"William favors a permanent, understated tribute over a television production or elaborate public commemoration," the source went on. "The proposed restoration would also fulfill a longstanding claim that William promised Diana, while still a child, that he would reinstate her royal style when he became monarch."
However, the source suggested William may have to wait to fulfill that alleged promise, explaining: "But he knows it will enrage Charles, so he is said to be waiting until after his father passes to make the move."

Prince William Reportedly Promised Princess Diana He Would Restore Her HRH Title One Day
The late Princess Diana stopped using her HRH title when she and the then-Prince Charles divorced in 1996. And according to reports, William promised his mother when he was just a child that he would one day restore it.
"That alleged promise has followed William for decades. Whether every word was remembered precisely or not, the story has enormous symbolic power," an insider told RadarOnline. They added: "The 30th anniversary of Diana's death presents an obvious moment to consider it, but William also understands the implications. This couldn't simply be treated as a sentimental family gesture."
However, the idea reportedly hasn't gone down well with his father. An insider previously told RadarOnline that the subject was particularly sensitive for Charles.

The source claimed: "William knows this is an incredibly sensitive subject for his father, who is enraged at these rumors; he is thinking of campaigning to have Diana's royal title posthumously restored. Anything involving Diana's title inevitably reopens one of the most painful periods in the family's history, and Charles would rather not have those decisions relitigated publicly."
The insider went on to explain that William's reported plans were about honoring his mother, rather than challenging his father...
"But for William this isn't about attacking his father. He remembers how much losing the HRH hurt his mother, and there is an enormous emotional pull in finally putting that right."
