Queen Camilla just turned heads by wearing an outfit to meet the new Pope that is causing a bit of a stir online.
This week, for their special meeting with Pope Leo XIV, the queen stood alongside her husband, King Charles, in a dramatic, all-black outfit. It was a historic occasion, since he was chosen for the coveted role in the Catholic church. It was the first time the new Pope sat down with the king and queen. Camilla’s outfit followed a very specific royal tradition, and despite that, some people felt it was a little too intense for the occasion. Read more about her look below.
Queen Camilla Meets Pope Leo XIV In An All-Black Outfit
On Thursday, October 23rd, a historic occasion occurred, as King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, arrived at the Vatican in Italy to meet with the newly appointed Pope Leo XIV, who was chosen to take over for the late Pope Francis. The royals attended Pope Francis's funeral in April and have since returned to Italy to meet his successor.
In royal fashion traditions, when queens go to have a meeting with the Pope, there's a select number of them who are encouraged and permitted to wear white when they meet him. These are queens of the Catholic faith. However, given that Charles and Camilla are members of the Church of England, she had to wear different attire.
For the special meeting, the 78-year-old wore an all-black ensemble that some royal family enthusiasts were not big fans of. She had on a black silk midi dress with long sleeves. She paired it with a dramatic medium-length black veil, sheer black tights, and black heels.

The Internet Reacts To Camilla's Black Outfit On Social Media
Once pictures of the queen's outfit for her and her husband's meeting with the influential figure were shared on various social media platforms, they attracted a lot of attention. It created a lot of buzz, not just because of its importance, but also because of Camilla's outfit, which generated some harsh feedback.
Many internet users thought the outfit was way too Halloween-coded, especially her black veil, which was completed with a black, almost floral-like crown on her head.
"Getting into the Halloween spirit early!" wrote an Instagram user, as another called the outfit "scary."
"Camilla's stylist loves Diana," joked a user, referencing her feud with the late princess.
"Camilla looking like the Grim Reaper," commented a user.
"She could audition for the next season of Wednesday on Netflix," joked a user, referencing the Addams Family spin-off series.
