Calling all Twi-hards! In a recent interview, director David Cronenberg, who has worked with both Twilight Saga icons Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, hinted that he’d love to see the two actors reunite on-screen (and possibly be a part of bringing them together again!)
Last week, Cronenberg sat down for an interview with World of Reel in which he discussed his new horror film Crimes of the Future which stars Stewart, 32. The director previously worked with Pattinson, 36, in two films— Cosmopolis (2012) and Maps to the Stars (2014), and explained that he, like millions of fans, wants to see the duo star in a future project together.

“It was Robert who actually introduced me to Kristen,” Cronenberg shared. He then acknowledged the talent and post-Twilight/ more recent success of both actors (as Stewart was just nominated for an Oscar for Spencer and Pattinson earned critical acclaim for his role in The Batman). “They have developed beautifully, separately, as actors. Making arthouse movies and successfully carrying that off.”
Cronenberg continued, recalling the memories he has made with the former couple behind-the-scenes of various films. “Kristen and I had a great time and Rob and I had a great time,” he said. “For me, yeah, I can definitely think of a movie, or idea, that would be great to have them both together. I don’t want to get into it because it wouldn’t be my next movie, however, it might be problematic since fans might expect a certain kind of relationship and that would get in the way of creating new characters for them.”

Fans of course, as Cronenberg seemed to imply, shouldn’t expect Pattinson and Stewart to ever step back into their legendary vampiric roles as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, but the cards don’t seem to be off the table as far as them ever starring in another film together! “It’s only theoretical for now,” Cronenberg added (but not impossible, we hope).
Naturally, after Cronenberg’s interview began trending on Twitter and elsewhere, fans couldn’t contain their excitement for the possibility of ‘Robsten’ reuniting on the big screen. “Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart reuniting for a Cronenberg film would be the most perfect full circle moment, I need this,” wrote one fan. Another added, “RPatz and KStew come back for a new movie plz!” (referencing their old fan and tabloid nicknames during the Twilight-era craze).

Pattinson and Stewart met on the set of the first hit supernatural-romance film and began dating in 2009, ultimately breaking up in 2012. Since then, both actors have moved on and Pattinson is currently dating British singer and model Suki Waterhouse and Stewart is engaged to screenwriter Dylan Meyer.
