It’s no secret that one of today’s most prominent artists is none other than Sabrina Carpenter, today’s top pop princess. However, some people have a bone to pick with the singer over one of her most recent viral lyrics.

A UK charity organization dedicated to helping people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder recently came out with a statement about how offended they were that the pop star referenced the condition in one of her most viral songs off her new album, “Nobody’s Son.” The organization accused her of spreading “harmful stereotypes,” and numerous internet users are coming forward in agreement, slamming the singer for not being more careful about what she writes. A PTSD Charity Organization Releases A Statement Against Sabrina Carpenter's New Hit Song

If you've been on social media at all lately, you've likely been hearing a handful of new songs from Sabrina Carpenter, as she recently released her highly anticipated seventh studio album, Man's Best Friend. On platforms like TikTok, people have been having a lot of fun coming up with dances and fun trends to do along with some of her new songs, one of the most popular ones being "Nobody's Son." In the song, which details a nasty breakup, one of the most viral lines used on social media is, "That boy is corrupt/Get PTSD on the daily."

The snippet of the song is frequently used on various social media platforms, with its catchy slapping sound effect in the middle of the words, and the catchy rhymes with the rest of the track. Since it's gone viral, however, some have been speaking out about her use of PTSD, otherwise known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a painful condition that affects victims of severe trauma. Many believe she used the disorder casually, and one charity organization, PTSD UK, wrote an open letter on their website about their disappointment in the singer, which recently went viral.

"We fully understand and respect creative expression, linguistic nuance, and artistic freedom — and we're not making any assumptions about the artist's personal mental health experiences or trauma," wrote the organization's CEO, Jacqui Suttie. "Relationship trauma can, of course, be profoundly impactful and can absolutely lead to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). But the concern lies in the way the phrase is framed: saying someone can 'get' PTSD 'on the daily' can sound casual, and risks giving the impression that PTSD is something that happens fleetingly, rather than being a serious and lasting mental health condition."

The Internet Slams Sabrina's Use Of PTSD In Her Lyrics On Social Media

The letter, while respectful, asked that the singer be more careful when it comes to mentioning disorders and mental health conditions in her music, citing that when used in too casual a setting or as a "throwaway" phrase that many fans could end up using in their lives, it can be quite upsetting and triggering to people who do suffer from them. The organization also worries that the way the disorder is mentioned in her lyrics could "misrepresent" how serious it is.

"As songwriters and public figures, you have an incredible platform and influence," continued Suttie. "We urge you to reflect on how your words can either perpetuate misunderstanding or help to foster compassion and awareness for those living with mental health conditions... We'd like to see Sabrina Carpenter and her team acknowledge the impact of this lyric and help correct misconceptions about PTSD and C-PTSD. By speaking about this issue, she could play a powerful role in raising understanding and compassion around trauma and mental health."

The letter caused mixed reactions from the internet, with some of her fans stating that the singer had every right to include the disorder in her lyrics, noting that harmful relationships and painful breakups can lead to PTSD. Others, however, agreed with the charity and felt she was being "insensitive."

"Very disappointing to see everyone dismissing this with such little empathy," wrote a Reddit user in response to those defending Sabrina.

"Just because you are not offended doesn't mean someone else isn't," added another.

One Facebook user responded to the letter and implied the singer didn't know what she was doing, writing, "Sabrina Carpenter is all about thinking she's shocking people - her ignorance is best ignored."

"This is so disappointing," wrote another Facebook user. "I like her music, but PTSD has destroyed my entire life. She has such a huge following, and it makes something so painful into such a flippant subject."
