In a new interview, the singer and actress opened up about how she’s dealt with “weight issues” throughout her career, and how she’s had to learn to deal with body-shaming comments that she receives on social media. It was one of the few times she’s spoken out about her weight and physique since she’s been sparking Ozempic rumors after posting slimmed-down selfies on Instagram. The "Lose You To Love Me" singer is one of today's biggest celebrities, with her successful beauty brand, Rare Beauty, her acting projects, and her new music, which she's released with her husband-to-be, Benny Blanco. Her name has been in the headlines everywhere, so it's no secret that she was made a cover star this summer, as she recently posed and interviewed for the cover of Allure.
Selena sat down for a tell-all interview, where she opened up about personal details of her life, addressing both her physical and mental health. At one point, she started talking about her body, noting how much her weight has fluctuated over the years, and how she's reacted whenever the media and internet users point it out.
"I've dealt with a lot of weight issues in my life, and that's something I'm very sensitive to," she told the publication.
In 2013, the Disney alum was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that can cause a series of risky and irritating symptoms, including weight fluctuations, inflammation, pain, and more. She famously underwent a kidney transplant in 2017, and since then, has been advocating for those with lupus and other health conditions, trying to end any stigmas surrounding them.

When the singer admitted she's dealt with weight issues, she also revealed to the publication that she's experimented with different types of mental health therapy to accept and deal with them, exploring her emotions and trying to cope with them. She opened up about going through dialectical behavior therapy and recalled the kind of questions she's had to ask herself in order to analyze her feelings.
"I got stung by a person saying I was fat," she admitted. "Why is that [emotion] coming up?"
"Now I understand that's stemming from that one time when I was going through some medical stuff and I had gained weight," she added.
The vulnerable comments on her weight didn't come out long after the internet began questioning how she's seemingly managed to lose a noticeable amount of weight more recently, with some mirror selfies featuring her slim figure making some users assume she's been taking weight loss drugs like Ozempic.
Still, the comments those users are making are making a difference in the 33-year-old's life, and she's continuing to work on how to prevent them from taking over her life and emotions through therapy and self-reflection.
"You just definitely have to be willing to do the work, and that part can be tricky," she said.
