Sharon Stone Slams Sydney Sweeney For Sports Betting Ad
In early September, Novig's ad featuring Sweeney dropped, and the backlash was quick and in large quantities. Women around the world spoke out against the ad, arguing that it sexualizes women in a context where female athletes have spent years trying to be taken seriously for their athletic accomplishments.
Many celebrities have spoken out against the ad and against Sweeney in particular, with Sharon Stone being one of the notable figures. "I think that it’s up to her to take responsibility for her actions, not up to me to judge her for her actions," Stone said to People during Variety's Power of Women event on September 23rd. "It is up to me to be a cheerleader for the women who have made it through and become champions in women’s sports."
"We can’t denigrate women’s sports to get men’s attention so they can gamble," she added.
