A slow phone can feel like torture. It becomes less efficient and more difficult to get anything down on a device that creeps and crawls its way through tasks, and the worst part is: it can feel like this slowdown has come out of nowhere. One minute your phone is acting normal, and the next it’s struggling to keep pace with your demands, failing to load pages quickly, and losing battery power frequently, requiring more charging sessions.

One thing you can do is be aware of which apps you are running. Many apps, including several popular social media apps, are to blame for phone issues like running slower and less efficiently. Here are three popular social media apps that could be slowing down your iPhone and Android.

1. Facebook

Facebook is the most popular social media, and also one that will undoubtedly use up a number of your phone’s background operations, including rendering videos and photos. It consumes a great deal of storage space and has a lot of cached data, which can slow down your phone. And because Facebook is constantly checking for updates and sending notifications, it never rests — these resources tax your phone and phone battery.

2. Instagram

It’s no surprise that Instagram, another app like Facebook that is owned by Meta, consumes a lot of phone storage, stores cached data like images and videos, and runs background processes in order to check for messages and send you notifications. Even more so than Facebook, IG is a platform reliant on videos and photos, and both of these things require resources and can cause your phone to slow down.

3. Snapchat

Snapchat stores photos, videos, and snaps and these files take up your phone’s cache, which increases the amount of storage space they consume. Like Facebook and Instagram, Snapchat is constantly checking for new snaps and sending you notifications, which isn’t just a distraction for the user, but is also a battery drain on your device. Another big battery consumer is its use of your GPS and locations. Snapchat is reliant on a strong WiFi connection, so if you are using the app and your connection isn’t strong, this can cause lag and delays.
