Straight hair is arguably one of the easiest hair types to style as it does not possess much texture of its own and is malleable to a variety of different looks. However, while straight hair can be easy to style, it can also quickly become uninspired, appearing lackluster and flat against your head and dragging down your look. When you’re styling your hair to create a youthful appearance, it’s important to know the cuts that will get the most out of your locks, enhancing your natural texture to hide your age. If you’re in need of a haircut that plays up your straight strands, these are the three hair expert approved styles to try out.

The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

The Bob

This classic style can instantly enhance your best facial features, using your natural texture to inject some youth into your look. “A bob always looks like it’s trendy and stylish which is half the battle when it comes to having straight hair appear youthful. Bobs tend to be cut close to the chin. Also, they can be cut asymmetrically as well to add some dimension. The process of removing extra length and weight from the hair can help to achieve more volume for the typically flatter straight hair,” says hairstylist Gina Rivera.

When you head to the salon, Rivera suggests asking your stylist for an asymmetrical bob which blended layers to add some volume and movement to your hair.

Bangs

Bangs can be paired with virtually any hairstyle to provide a youthful twist to your look, and there are a number of different styles of fringe you can try to get the best fit. “For those that are going for a younger look, it’s best to avoid a short, blunt cut bang that can make features appear harsher and more prominent. Right now, the curtain bang is trending which is a terrific look for those with straight hair that want to frame their face and add an element of fresh and young. Bangs are also best worn slightly longer as you mature. They’re perfect for hiding fine lines on the forehead,” notes Rivera.

The Pixie

If you’re looking to be a little more bold, a pixie cut is both flattering and stylish, making it the perfect cut to turn to as you begin to age. “The pixie is known for being longer on the top and shorter on the sides and over the ears.  The great thing about the pixie is that it’s a pro at emphasizing flattering features such as the eyes and the cheekbones,” says Rivera. With a pixie, it’s important to invest in good styling products to transform the look, using gel to spike the hair, or mousse for a more tousled look. The versatility of the style makes a pixie cut perfect for fitting any personality and is sure to shave years off of your appearance.

The key to using your haircut to look younger is finding a style that fits your personal taste while playing up your best features. Shorter crops look great with straight hair because they add some volume where longer locks would be weighed down, and adding some layers or fringe to either a pixie or bob will mask fine lines and wrinkles, instantly making you look younger. Your skincare routine may do the heavy lifting for anti-aging, but how you style your hair can help just as much!
