If you’ve taken a scroll on Pinterest or BeautyTok lately, you might have seen hair inspo pics of ‘bronde’ tresses, (or a stunning mix of brunette and blonde tones) and the trendy, ashy ‘mushroom’ color. This spring, as stylists tell us, a combination of these popular looks is emerging as the latest to-die-for color at salons all over: ‘mushroom bronde.’

We caught up with professional hair stylists and hair experts to learn more about the trendy color, why it works so well for warmer weather seasons, and how you can rock it yourself. Read on for tips, suggestions and insight from Greg Decker, pro hair stylist and colorist, and Lauren Udoh, pro hair stylist and Hair Creative Director at WigReports.

Mushroom Bronde: A Subtle, Yet Statement-Making Hair Color Trend

When it comes to a 'mushroom' hair color, Decker explains that this TikTok-trendy look "mimics the many ashy tones of mushrooms as well as the deeper hues on their undersides to create that subtle and cool color." He adds that it is ultimately a "blonde hair color but a bit on the darker side with gray and purple undertones."

Regarding the ever-so-popular 'bronde,' Decker points out that it is "surely the top trend in this spring season, and it is a sweet blend of brown and blonde tones." It helps you strike a balance with "stunning sun kisses while rendering that neutral effect." This multi-dimensional color, he adds, "features a dark base with subtle highlights to get the desired look."

When combining these two elements—mushroom and bronde— Udoh says that this creates the "perfect balance between dark and light tones, and is the ideal choice for those wanting to lighten their complexion subtly without going too bright."

She also says that this "soft blend of ashy warm browns and cool smoky grays" is the perfect option for clients looking for "something on trend yet still versatile enough to transition seasonally."

"I think bronde and mushroom hair color trends are popular for spring because they provide a soft and subtle look," Udoh continues. "As a pro hair stylist, I love how these colors offer the perfect balance between natural and unnatural, creating an effortless, beachy look that is still polished and sophisticated."

Bronde is beautiful, she goes on, because it's like "having highlights without being too bold or obvious, while mushroom colors add texture and dimension to the hair." She also recommends this trend because it can easily "be customized by adding other tones and highlights to create a unique look that is tailored perfectly for each individual client." She emphasizes that these colors provide a "beautiful spring look with an effortless style."

How To Rock The Color Yourself

Dying to go mushroom bronde? Udoh has some helpful tips for you. Firstly, she says to always head to a salon for styles like this that require strategic highlights (rather than trying it at home) and to "make sure to use a professional-quality hair dye for the best results." She stresses "avoiding box dyes, as they can often be ineffective or damaging depending on your hair type."

In addition, Udoh suggests choosing a shade that complements your skin tone, as this will "help make the color look natural and give it a beautiful, healthy glow." After dying your locks, she recommends using a "clarifying shampoo and conditioner to remove any product buildup from your hair that could affect dye's results." For the best possible shine, Udoh says to "consider adding a glaze or gloss treatment to keep your color vibrant and glossy throughout the season."

Before applying any product to your hair, the most important step is to "have a consultation with your stylist before you commit to any drastic changes," Udoh concludes, as they will be able to make sure you're happy with the end result.

Her last piece of advice is to "come in to your salon for regular touch-ups to maintain the look, even if you're not making any drastic changes," as it's important to keep your color fresh.
