Salmon

Salmon stands out as a superfood renowned for its numerous health benefits, particularly for individuals over 40 aiming to shed abdominal fat. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, specifically EPA and DHA, salmon offers potent anti-inflammatory properties that can aid in reducing visceral fat—the stubborn fat that accumulates around the abdomen and poses significant health risks.

This type of fish is high in healthy fats, and Feder explains why this is actually beneficial for visceral fat, "Salmon is loaded with nutrients, healthy fats, and protein. The high amount of nutrients and healthy fats are great for combatting inflammation as well as improving overall health. They can also provide consistent energy levels which is very important for weight loss."

He continues to say, "Salmon provides high amounts of protein which is great for feeling full and staying full for long periods of time. This is great for preventing overeating and to suppress the urge to snack." Noted!

Avocados

Packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, avocados offer a unique advantage in combating stubborn belly fat by promoting the body's ability to burn fat for fuel. Additionally, their high fiber content aids in digestion and helps regulate blood sugar levels, preventing spikes that can contribute to weight gain, especially around the midsection.

Feder says despite being known for its high fat content, "They are a superfood with healthy fats and lots of gut healthy fiber. The healthy fats, namely mono- and poly- unsaturated fats are great at stabilizing blood sugar, hunger, and providing consistent energy."

That's not all though, as he further notes their anti-inflammatory properties. "They are also great at reducing inflammation throughout the body which can help improve metabolism. Lastly, avocados contain high amounts of gut healthy fiber which is great for optimizing gut health as well as keeping you feeling satiated," he notes.
