Inflation has a way of creeping into every corner of our lives, from groceries to streaming subscriptions—and it’s especially been doing a number on fast food prices. Complaints of fast food “shrinkflation” have become common across the internet. In a recent post, one Reddit user called out Taco Bell for rising prices, claiming that they can no longer afford to eat at the restaurant.

“I can’t afford to eat at Taco Bell as much as I used to eat there. Makes me sad,” they wrote. The post sparked a flood of comments from users who commiserated with the struggle of increasingly hefty Taco Bell bills. Find all the details below.

Taco Bell fans complain about high prices

If your favorite fast food joint has been taking a toll on your wallet lately, you’re not alone. Taco Bell customers recently took to Reddit to express their dissatisfaction with the high prices.

“I. Am. Sad,” the original poster wrote. Others jumped in to commiserate.

“Once they got rid of the $2 chipotle ranch chicken burrito, and $2 cheesy double beef burrito and raised the price of it to $2.79 while adding a lesser quality chicken burrito for $2.49, I haven’t been back,” wrote one person.

“Taco Bell is still decently cheap. The issue is that their good specialty items are all $3+ now,” another lamented.

“I ordered a crunch wrap and a small drink and it was f—ing $10.57,” a frustrated comment reads.

The consensus among many is clear: Taco Bell's appeal used to lie in its affordability, but now, with prices steadily climbing, the value proposition is waning. As one commenter put it bluntly, "Taco Bell was all about getting mediocre food for cheap, now it’s trash and less of it for high prices. I’m not paying $30 a visit to Taco Bell."

However, some people were looking on the bright side, and pointed out the unintended health benefits of cutting back on Taco Bell visits, stating, "I made the mistake of using a food tracking app to help me with my weight management. I cut back to TB once every 2 weeks and my sodium intake dropped to about 1/8 of what it was before." After all, fast food can take a serious toll on your body—it's always good to see the silver lining!

And for those still seeking a Taco Bell fix without breaking the bank, there was a beacon of hope: the new $5 Taco Discovery Box, which you can get every Tuesday. As one user eagerly pointed out, "Tuesdays until June has a $5 box. DEFINITELY WORTH IT."

In a time when every dollar counts, the shifting landscape of fast food prices serves as a reminder that even our most cherished indulgences can come with a cost. As Taco Bell continues to adjust its menu and pricing strategy, loyal customers find themselves grappling with the reality of a beloved institution drifting further from its roots of affordability.
