You can blame Kylie Jenner and Hailey Baldwin the very unlikely reflective sweatpants trend that’s about to be everywhere.
The trendsetters have proved they can make anything popular, by rocking a pair of elastic-waist reflective sweatpants. Will their collective 121M followers take the bait? Let’s investigate…
When she’s not toting Stormi like a Birkin, Kylie is taking mirror selfies like a boss. This one she posted about a month ago features a pretty typical look for the lip kit mogul: tiny sunglasses, french pigtail braids, a crop top, sweatpants and trainers:

But those aren’t regular sweatpants in the casual bathroom selfie, you see. Upon closer investigation we have learned that those are Reflective Sweatpants ($49) from Australia-based brand My Mum Made It, founded by Nyree Leckenby and manufactured in China (no, her mom didn’t really make them).

According to the website, these pants are truly versatile. They’re grey in day light (a la, in Kylie’s pic) and reflective under a flash light. Whoa!
And she’s not the only fan of reflective track pants. Hailey Baldwin just stepped out in West Hollywood earlier this month wearing a Gucci logo tee and iridescent pants from the latest Opening Ceremony x Columbia collaboration:
Hailey’s exact Columbia x Opening Ceremony Grand Cache Pants in steam ($160) appear to be sold out, but you can get the matching anorak still. Phew!
And the trend has even deeper roots than we thought. If I may enter into evidence this Vine from 2017 featuring shiny jacket boy that truly proves this trend is one for the ages:

Now that we’re seeing them in action (mainly, styled with fur slides or a Gucci tee) they are kind of growing on us. Although I didn’t wake up this morning thinking to myself, “You know what my wardrobe needs? Sweatpants you can see from space,” (or that belong there), but hey–sometimes it takes an uber influencer like Kylie or Hailey to tell the rest of us what we *really* need in life.
