Experts agree that the only thing worse than skipping breakfast is eating a breakfast filled with unhealthy foods. Without even realizing it, many people consume far too much sugar before the clock even hits 10 o’clock AM. This sets you up for a day of cravings, digestive issues, energy slumps, and more. The best breakfast options include a balance between protein, healthy carbs, and good fats.
It’s never good to have too much sugar in your diet, but we understand that sometimes having breakfast on the go means reaching for a protein bar. Sure, you may be helping hit your daily value of protein for the day but that also means maxing out on your sugar for the day.
So, if you have to grab a protein bar for breakfast, you should try to do so before 10 A.M. Doing so gives your body more time to process the sugars and puts that protein towards muscle growth.
When it comes to choosing your protein bar, try to avoid ones that are high in preservatives.
Culinary nutrition expert, Andrea Wien, explains that protein bras are often loaded with preservatives, GMOs, allergens, soy, aspartame, saccharin, and artificial flavors. “Be diligent about checking labels and making sure ingredients come from a good source and is sugar, soy and gluten-free,” she warns.
