According to Lady Alopecia, sulfates can lead to serious problems: "These cleansing and foaming agents are pretty good at stripping the hair of debris and excess sebum. The two most common sulfates in hair products are sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), and both can lead to unnecessary hair loss.
