The One Deodorant No One Should Be Buying Anymore Because It’s SO Bad For Your Skin

We use deodorant every day, so you want to make sure that you’ve chosen the best brand and formula. But, most people don’t realize that their deodorants and antiperspirants contain harmful ingredients that can cause a series of problems. In fact, dermatologists say that you should stop using deodorants that have fragrance, parabens, and aluminum in them!

Fragrance seems like an essential deodorant ingredient because of its odor-fighting properties, but experts say that it can be an agent for irritation and allergic reactions -- which are things we definitely do not want happening in our underarms! “It could be phthalates, or it could be substances that cause allergies or skin irritation,” says Heather Patisaul, Ph.D., an associate professor of biology at North Carolina State University. Do yourself and your underarms a favor and look for deodorants that are scentless and free of fragrance and perfume!

Stylish deodorant options for a confident, healthy lifestyle.

Parabens have been making headlines recently for their use in beauty products and their possible correlation to diseases and ailments. Though evidence on its harmful effects is limited, experts say that you should still be mindful about using products that contain the controversial ingredient. "There’s estrogen-sensitive tissue in the breast, so the worry is that if you put parabens close to this tissue every day, they may promote the growth of cancer cells,” Patisaul says.

Eco-friendly deodorant selection for sustainable beauty choices.

Research suggests that aluminum, a common ingredient found in deodorants and antiperspirants, can be toxic to the body and can also cause breast cancer! Studies show that most breast cancers develop in the upper outer part of the breast, which is closest to the armpit where deodorant is applied. It is believed that the aluminum is absorbed into the skin and interacts with the DNA, causing cancerous changes in the cells. Yikes!

This is a lot of scary information to take in. Make sure that you're using the best deodorant by carefully examining the ingredients list next time you're in the drugstore. Or, opt for an organic brand that you know is free of all of these harmful ingredients!
