As you grow older and your metabolism starts to slow down, finding metabolism-boosting recipes can be a key component of achieving weight loss goals. Specifically, certain ingredients can boost your metabolism and help with weight loss. According to Amber Nash, health & wellness expert and founder of Fit Healthy Best, spicy chiles are a key ingredient for jumpstarting your metabolism. She explains, “Studies show that spicy chiles, which are the stars of this recipe, have a slight metabolism-boosting effect.”

Her favorite recipe to help speed up fat loss is her homemade Metabolism-Torching Mexican Chile Soup. By avoiding high-sodium canned soups and opting for homemade soups instead, you can speed up fat loss and boost your metabolism. She explains another advantage of her recipe: “Even better, broth-based soups with lots of vegetables and lean protein will keep you full for a long period of time!”

Ingredients:

- 2 dried ancho chiles, stems and seeds removed

- 3 dried guajillo chiles, stems and seeds removed

- 2 lb cooked chicken breast, shredded

- 4-6 cups chicken broth

- 1¾ cups pinto beans

- 1¾ cups corn

- 1/2 chopped onion

- 3 cloves garlic

- 1 tsp dried oregano

- 1 tsp sea salt

- 1/2 tsp black pepper

- 1/4 tsp ground cumin

- 1/8 tsp ground cloves

Optional garnishes: avocado, lime wedges, or cilantro

How to make it:

Simmer chiles covered in water for about 10 minutes or until soft. Blend chiles and water in a blender with oregano, sea salt, black pepper, onion, garlic, cumin, and cloves.

Add the chile mixture and the remaining ingredients to a saucepan and simmer for 10-20 minutes (or cook in slow cooker on low for 4-5 hours). Serve with optional garnishes.

Why It Works:

While the spicy chiles in this recipe help jumpstart your metabolism, the pinto beans also help you lose weight. High-protein foods, like beans and legumes, are an important component of a healthy diet. Specifically, these protein-rich ingredients help reduce hunger, boost your metabolism, and burn calories faster.

Another recipe to try:

If you're looking for another weight-loss friendly soup recipe, try out Lisa Richards' Celeriac Soup. Lisa Richards, nutritionist and the author of The Candida Diet, recommends incorporating this soup into your diet if you're trying to lose weight. She says, "This soup is low sugar and anti-inflammatory which will help to lower the amount of bloat you experience, and you should see a difference on the scale. Celeriac is packed with antioxidants and nutrients that improve digestion and overall health, metabolism included."
