Despite looking well at the beginning of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Thursday, June 2nd, Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly feeling some “discomfort” during the Trooping the Color parade, and will therefore be missing one of her scheduled appearances on Friday, June 3rd.

“The Queen greatly enjoyed today’s Birthday Parade and Flypast but did experience some discomfort,” a royal spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday, June 2nd, before confirming that the 96-year-old monarch will no longer be attending the National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral, as originally planned.

“Taking into account the journey and activity required to participate in tomorrow’s National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Her Majesty with great reluctance has concluded that she will not attend,” the statement continued.

“The Queen is looking forward to participating in tonight’s Beacon lighting event at Windsor Castle and would like to thank all those who made today such a memorable occasion.”

The Queen seemed to be in great spirits as she waved to the crowd who turned up in their thousands to support her, and also when she appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony. She was joined on the balcony by many senior royals, including the Prince of Wales, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their three children, Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4, who seemed to steal the show with his humorous reactions to the airplanes flying above him.

The National Service of Thanksgiving isn’t the only event over the Platinum Jubilee weekend that The Queen will be missing, as Buckingham Palace also confirmed that Her Majesty will no longer be attending the Epsom Derby on Saturday, June 4th, either. However, the Palace said that she is still expected to watch the event on TV from Windsor Castle. We hope Her Majesty makes a speedy recovery so she can enjoy the rest of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations!
