Like, did you know that egg beaters are actually *so* bad for you? Neither did we until Food Babe clued us in via a semi-long rant on her blog leading up to a frittata recipe. Seriously–it was actually so helpful!

To Get All The Health Benefits, You Must Eat The WHOLE Egg

Eggs are filled with so many nutrients in one small oval format. They've got sulfur which is great for hair and nails. They've got Vitamin D and B12 which are good for vegans to load up on. They've got lutein a compound that may help protect against cancer, heart disease and cataracts. And they've got lecithin that helps your body break down fat. But, you have to eat the whole egg to get these incredible health benefits, Food Babe aka Vani Hari, points out.

Eggs Lose Their Nutrients During Processing

She warns that you should also avoid those pre-made cartons of egg whites or Egg Beaters for the same reason--it throws off the nutritional benefits of this super food.

 

Eggs lose many of their nutrients during processing, she points out. If you look at the ingredients contained in them, you'll see words like Natural Flavor, Color, Xanthan Gum, and Maltodextrin

Vani points out that “natural flavor” is reportedly a way for companies to sneak in MSG without labeling it. Additionally, xanthan gum and maltodextrin are made from genetically modified corn. Steer clear!
