The birth of a baby is when families typically come together, but the way the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Archie was handled helped to deepen the rift between royal brothers Harry and Prince William in more ways than one.
We all know that Archie was born a happy and healthy baby on May 6, 2019. It turns out, however, that the world was notified about his arrival much later in the day and that struck a nerve with uncle William.
More than one year later, we continue to learn more about the details surrounding his birth thanks to British historian Robert Lacey’s new book Battle of Brothers: William and Harry – The Inside Story of a Family in Tumult.
Lacey writes that Archie arrived early in the morning at 5:25 a.m., which allowed Harry, Meghan, and Meghan’s mom Doria Ragland to welcome him on their own without a formal announcement from Buckingham Palace stating that Archie was on his way.

“Their stratagem was bolstered by Buckingham Palace’s putting out a strangely misleading statement at 2 p.m. that day saying that the Duchess of Sussex was just going into labour — when she had, in fact, been delivered of her new son eight hours earlier,” Lacey reveals.
This reportedly did not sit well with William as he “did not think too highly of Harry and Meghan’s ‘prima donna’ manoeuvres to conceal the birth of their son,” Lacey writes.
Lacey further claims in his book that it took the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge much longer to meet baby Archie than it did for the rest of the royal family. While the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Camilla all reportedly met Archie on his birthday, William and Kate welcomed their nephew more than a week later. Yikes!
The strain on William and Harry’s relationship continues to grow following Harry’s departure from his official royal life and duties earlier this year. With more than 5,000 miles now between the brothers, who’s to say when their relationship could be pieced back together.
