A morning coffee run is a staple in many people’s routines, but it could mean trouble for your health and diet if you aren’t careful with what you order. In fact, many popular coffee orders pack in calories, sugar, and fat, which can have a huge effect on your overall health–especially if you are having one (or more!) per day.

With that in mind, keep reading for the worst thing to order at a coffee shop right now!

When hitting a coffee shop, you're better off steering clear of any specialty drinks. For example, some popular specialty drinks include Dunkin' Butter Pecan Swirl Frozen Coffee with Skim Milk and McDonald's Caramel Frappe, Whip and Caramel Drizzle.

 

According to Eat This, Not That!, both of these choices have over 600 calories. They also pack in a lot of fat and calories.

With that in mind, steering clear of specialty coffee orders, which usually incorporate flavored syrups and cream, try to stick to a more simple coffee order.

 

Black coffee is the best choice for people keeping an eye on their calorie intake. Plus, you can always add your own preferred amounts of milk and sugar, so you can control exactly how much is going into your cup.

However, if you do want to keep the drink healthy, it's a good idea to skip the sugar (or choose stevia instead) and stick to almond milk.

 

Dr. Oz recommends almond milk as the healthiest "milk" choice: "Almond milk is a light and nutty option for a traditional 12-ounce latte and brings your beverage to just 80 calories per serving."

With that in mind, next time you head to your local coffee shop, keep these tips in mind for a healthier morning beverage--and definitely try to stay away from any sugar-laden specialty drinks!
