The thong sandal trend is extremely divisive to say the least. Some style-savvy people are calling them the ultimate effortlessly stylish quiet luxury summer shoe. Others, however, insist they look cheap and thoughtless, and ruin otherwise polished outfits that would be better finished with something more delicate or intricate. We can kind of see both sides of the argument!

Just a few days ago, the 44-year-old Skims mogul shared snaps from her latest family trip to Cabo with her 355M Instagram followers. Between multiple private jet shots (jealous? Us?) and enviable beach views were essential outfit pictures. And it was those outfit pictures that took fans by surprise – especially when they zoomed in on her footwear!
Instead of chunky slides or the cult-favorite Hermès Oran sandals, Kim went for something much simpler – classic black thong sandals, as seen in the top right picture. As we mentioned earlier, thong sandals have long been criticized when styled with anything other than a bikini or cover-up, but Kim has never shied away from pushing fashion boundaries, has she?
And anyone who wants to argue with that simply needs to refer to a picture of her wearing Balenciaga's chunky thong sandals, which she reminded fans of in a throwback post back in June.

The 28-year-old Rhode mogul took a soft and feminine approach to the trend earlier this month, and shared some pictures of her take on the trend with her 55.5M Instagram followers.
The mom-of-one teamed an effortlessly stylish black pair of Prada thong sandals with a chic De La Vali red and white polka dot mini dress with long billowy sleeves, which went down a storm with her loyal followers!
"Sooo pretty," gushed one fan in the comment section of her August 12th Instagram carousel, which featured the above photos.
