Today Show viewers have already had to adjust to one major change, with Hoda Kotb‘s absence now the norm after she broke many fans’ hearts by leaving the show a year ago. But viewers have also had to temporarily get used to life without Savannah Guthrie too, as she announced at the end of last year that she would be taking some time off to undergo vocal surgery.
On December 19th, the Today co-host revealed that she had nodules and a polyp that required removal, and would therefore be taking an extended break from the show to have vocal surgery and allow herself time to recover properly. And her absence seems to have had mixed reactions…
Savannah Guthrie Updates Fans After Her Vocal Surgery
Last month, Savannah, 54, told viewers: "Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit. Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules and I also have a polyp. It's not a big, big deal, but I am going to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks, so this is my last day for a little while."
Savannah has now had the surgery and appears to be recovering well, if her recent updates are anything to go by. On January 5th, she posted a picture of herself on Instagram smiling while wearing a white T-shirt and black glasses and holding up a whiteboard with a handwritten message that read: "All good! Thanks for prayers and love!"
The picture was also shared on the Today Instagram account that same day. And while most fans filled the comment section with supportive messages and well wishes, a few others weren't so kind, with some even declaring that they thought the show was "much better" without her. Ouch!

Internet Reactions
"She's been missing? Wondered why the show moved along without any annoying interruptions," quipped one Today viewer on the show's Instagram account.
"Let's be honest. The Today Show is much better without her cutting everyone off and actually worth a watch," echoed a second, as a third harshly commented: "Don't come back."
A fourth hinted that Savannah needed surgery because of "all that yapping," as a fifth said: "It's good without her. Taking a time out is scary cause people can realize you're replaceable."
Not everyone was so negative though, as a sixth fan exclaimed: "Feel better soon! We miss you!" "Savannah IS the Today Show," praised a seventh. "Get well! You are missed!" added an eighth, followed by the pink heart emoji, as a ninth added: "Wishing you an easy recovery. We will miss you but know you will return as soon as you are able."
When Will Savannah Guthrie Be Back On 'Today?'
On the Monday, January 12th show, Jenna Bush Hager called Guthrie to check in on her friend and co-host during week two of her recovery. When asked how she was doing, Guthrie replied: "Good, boring, quiet." Carson Daly joked: "This feels like a Jimmy Fallon gameshow."
She clearly was in good spirits, and held up a white board saying: "The kids said 'Mom even when you're quiet, you're still loud.'" This is in reference to kids Vale, 11, and Charley, 9. She then picked up a second whiteboard and joked: "We're gonna need a bigger white board."
During the segment, it was also revealed that she aims to be back on the show "in about a week," so fans don't have too long to wait for her return.
