Erm, what has Tom Cruise done to his face? The 59-year-old Mission: Impossible actor looks almost unrecognizable these days, which has prompted fans to wonder if he has recently had any surgical procedures, or if there is any other explanation for his extremely puffy and swollen face.

Concerns about Cruise’s appearance first started when he was spotted at Game 2 of the National League Division Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants on Saturday, October 9th with his son Connor. The Top Gun actor was spotted sitting in the stands and waving to fans, but little did he know that they would soon flock to social media to discuss his shocking appearance. Twitter was ablaze with fans discussing among themselves what they thought the cause of Cruise’s swollen face was, with weight gain and fillers being the top two options.

“What has Tom Cruise done to his face,” one concerned fan asked on Twitter, alongside a confused emoji. “What’s up with the bloated chipmunk cheeks?” another tweeted. “@TomCruise What have you done to your gorgeous face?!!!! I was soooo disappointed when I saw you in the stands at the Dodgers game! STOP putting *expletive* into your face please!!!!” another fan begged the actor. “I know I shouldn’t comment on a gentleman’s looks, but what happened to Tom Cruise’s face? I thought Scientology held the cure for everything including aging,” someone else wrote.

Many others came to the conclusion that fillers were the only explanation, with one fan writing, “Tom Cruise has either gained weight, or he has a face full of fillers. I’m going with the fillers.” However, several other users of the social network thought that people shouldn’t spend all their time focusing on Cruise’s face, while many fans thought that, despite everything, the actor actually looked pretty good. “Tom Cruise putting some weight on in his face because he’s prob not filming a movie requiring him to be in not-human shape and getting memed all over for it feels awfully yucky to me,” one Twitter user tweeted, in defense of the actor, while another maintained that he looked great during his off-duty appearance with his son, writing: “He still looks great for his age. He’s almost 60 for Pete’s sake.”

Although the baseball appearance was the first time fans saw Cruise's face up close, he did appear to also sport a swollen face in recent behind-the-scenes pictures from the set of his latest Mission: Impossible film. This isn’t the first time that the actor has been at the centre of plastic surgery rumors though. Although he has always denied having work done, fans have speculated for many years that the Edge of Tomorrow star has had rhinoplasty, a hair transplant, dental veneers, and Botox, to name just a few.

We don't have the answers – we wish we did, but we don’t – so we'll just have to speculate like everyone else. If he has had some work done, we wouldn’t be too surprised given his newly single status. (He ended things with his 39-year-old Mission: Impossible 7 co-star Hayley Atwell earlier this month, FYI.) Us regular folk may get a new haircut at the end of a relationship, but we wouldn’t put it past Hollywood stars to treat themselves to a whole new face. We'll be keeping a close eye on Cruise's face to see if anything changes!
