Flying Soon In 2026? TSA Is Cracking Down On These Popular Beauty, Personal Care, And Wellness Items

If you’re planning to travel in 2026, it may be time to double-check your beauty bag before heading to the airport. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is continuing to strictly enforce — and in some cases tighten — rules surrounding common beauty and personal care items. From deodorant to hair tools, certain staples could slow you down at security or even get confiscated if packed incorrectly.

Here’s what you need to know before you zip up your carry-on.

Deodorants

Not all deodorants are treated equally at security. Solid stick deodorants remain hassle-free and are allowed in both carry-on and checked luggage without restrictions.

However, spray, gel, liquid, or roll-on deodorants fall under the TSA’s 3-1-1 liquids rule. That means they must be 3.4 ounces (100–110 ml) or less to go in your carry-on and fit inside a single quart-sized clear bag. Anything larger must be packed in checked luggage. If you’re unsure, switching to a solid stick version can help you avoid unnecessary delays.

Powdered Supplements

Bringing protein powder, collagen, or other powdered supplements? Be mindful of the size. Powders in carry-on bags that exceed 12 ounces (about 350 ml or roughly the size of a soda can) may require additional screening — and if agents cannot clear the item, it could be prohibited.

To avoid extra inspection time at security, it’s best to pack larger, non-essential powder containers in checked luggage. Medically necessary powders and baby formula are exempt from the added scrutiny, but it’s still wise to allow extra time at the checkpoint.

Cordless Curling Irons and Flat Irons with Gas Cartridges

Love your cordless styling tools? Here’s where you need to be especially careful. As of August 2025, the TSA prohibits cordless curling irons, flat irons, and similar hair tools that use gas, butane, or certain lithium battery systems in checked luggage due to fire risk.

These tools are only permitted in carry-on bags — and only if they have a securely fitted safety cover over the heating element. Spare butane gas cartridges are not allowed in either carry-on or checked luggage under any circumstances.

If a prohibited item is discovered in your checked bag, it may be removed — and in some cases, travelers can face significant fines. Traditional corded curling irons, however, remain allowed in both carry-on and checked luggage.

The Bottom Line

Airport beauty mishaps are avoidable with a little preparation. Stick deodorants are the safest bet, keep liquids under 3.4 ounces in your carry-on, move large powder containers to checked bags, and double-check cordless hair tools for compliance before flying.

When in doubt, remember: solid products and traditional corded tools are typically your safest travel companions. A quick review of TSA guidelines before you pack can save you time, stress, and the heartbreak of tossing your favorite beauty staple at security.
