There are no don’ts” when it comes to hair. If a particular style looks and feels right on you, then it is the right one for you to sport. You’ll know your hair is exactly how it should be if you feel like it suits your facial features and face shape, does wonderful things to your hair and its texture, and is as low maintenance as possible, within reason.
Some signs that it isn’t the right hair at the moment will also make themselves evident. If your current hairstyle makes your hair look thinner than it is, pulls your face downward, or simply doesn’t add anything to your complexion or overall look, it may be time to consider a change. These seven hairstyles may not be doing your hair or appearance the justice they deserve. If you’re finding yourself in a style rut, consider parting ways with these seven hair looks.
1. Long and One Length
Often times, the mature celebs we admire who sport long, one-length hair are wearing hair extensions that help create a fuller look. Many women find that long hair without layers lays too flat and doesn’t offer them movement, style, or volume.

2. Tight Buns
Not only do super-tight buns appear severe on the face, but they pull your hair at the roots, which can cause hair damage like shedding and breakage. Keep the updo, but consider loosening it and allowing a few strands to fall where they may.

3. Teased Hair
Teasing your roots just a little can create lift and volume at the roots. But overdoing it automatically gives an old-fashioned and outdated appearance.

4. Helmet Hair
If your hair feels stiff, forced, and overly styled (with a lot of height on top or tight curls), it can appear too “done.” There’s nothing wrong with a polished look, but for a less high-maintenance vibe, making the hair less helmet-like will help — this often means going light with the hairspray.

5. Very Short, Severe Hair
Pixie haircuts are everywhere right now, and we’re living for them. But today’s stylish pixie is a bit longer on top, with softer pieces that look layered and textured. When the hair is very short and spiky, it can create a more drastic and sometimes severe look. If this isn’t your desired goal, ask your stylist how you can create a softer pixie or mixie.

6. Center Parts
It’s difficult to wear a center part and expect your hair to look voluminous, especially if it lacks layering and styling. If your center part makes your hair look flat at the roots, a simple swap is to part it to the side.

7. Very Dark Hair
Some women are born to have dark hair, and no amount of blonde looks right on them. If, however, you are finding that your very dark shade is making you appear too pale and draining, consider breaking up one-dimensional color with a few highlights that offer dimension. You don’t have to turn blonde to make an impact: a few strands that are one-to-two shades lighter is all it takes.
