Brace yourself: Wendy’s has added yet another option to its extensive menu. The popular fast food chain is known to keep customers on their toes with new food options every so often, and we just learned news of their latest new sandwich.
And this is not something you would expect Wendy’s to even offer. The restaurant is known for its various types of chicken sandwiches, yet now they are testing out a new plant-based burger.

Wendy's just started testing out its new "Spicy Black Bean Burger" in three cities for just a limited time. We can likely expect the burger's availabilty to expand if this soft launch is successful.
Currently, customers in Jacksonville, FL, Pittsburgh, PA and Columbus, OH can try out the new black bean burger for $5.79.
The restaurant's choice to add a new vegetarian burger to its menu comes after its competitors have begun doing the same. McDonald's offers a plant-based burger made from pea and rice protein, while Burger King offers the Impossible burger.
And Wendy's has found a way to tease its competitors, while launching its own type of meat-free burger.
Wendy's said in a statement, "Certain plant-based creations have spawned a bland reputation for the category -- looking at you McImpossible -- but luckily, Wendy's has spice in her DNA."
The restaurant chain has not yet decided how long they will be testing out the new Spicy Black Bean Burger, though a spokesperson has said that the company hopes to have a better sense on the menu item's future later this summer.
