Salma Hayek recently revealed that she survived a brutal case of COVID-19 this past year. The actress opened up in an interview with Variety, sharing that she had contracted the virus very early in the pandemic.
And as is the case for many people, Hayek’s experience with the virus was devastating and life-threatening. It took her nearly two months to get through the illness, and she even had to be put on oxygen.

Hayek told Variety, “My doctor begged me to go to the hospital because it was so bad. I said, ‘No, thank you. I’d rather die at home.’”
The actress ultimately spent seven weeks in isolation in a room in her home in London, which she shares with husband, Kering CEO François-Henri Pinault, and 13-year-old daughter, Valentina.
Thankfully, Hayek has now recovered from her near-fatal battle with COVID-19. She has even been able to return to work in the time since.
She went back to her routine of filming movies this past April, working on Ridley Scott’s House Of Gucci, which also stars Lady Gaga and Adam Driver. In the film, Hayek “plays a clairvoyant who was convicted of helping Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) orchestrate the 1995 killing of her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), an heir to the Gucci fashion empire,” as Variety details.
The 54-year-old actress will also star in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which will be released next month. She had wrapped up filming for this project pre-pandemic, though the release had been delayed for over a year.
And if all of this wasn’t enough, Hayek will also start in Marvel’s upcoming movie The Eternals, based on a comic book series. This movie is set to release later this year.
Salma Hayek is not the only celebrity who has recently shared her experience with COVID-19. Pink recently shared her story, revealing that she too believed she may die.
"Battling COVID-19 along with my 3-year-old son was the most physically and emotionally challenging experience I have gone through as a mother," Pink wrote for NBC News last year. "Weeks after receiving our test results, my son was still ill and feverish. It was a terrifying time, not knowing what might come next."
