The tension between the royal family and Meghan Markle has been well-documented in recent months. When Harry and Meghan announced that they would be taking a step away from the royal family, many were quick to point out that the couple seemed to be distant from Prince William and Kate Middleton.
However, an early interview with the Meghan and Harry shows that things were not always so tense between the two couples.

According to Express, in a 2017 interview with BBC’s Mishal Husain, Meghan explained what it was like to meet Harry's family--specifically his brother and sister-in-law.
First, Harry explained, "It was exciting. I mean, I’ve, you know, I’d been seeing her for a period of time when I literally didn’t tell anybody at all. And then William was longing to meet her and so was Catherine, so you know being our neighbors we managed to get that in a couple of — well, quite a few times now and Catherine has been absolutely..."
Meghan interjected, "Wonderful."
Harry agreed, "Amazing, as has William as well, and then my father as well."
He continued, "[T]he family together have been absolutely, you know, a solid support and my grandparents as well have been — have been wonderful throughout this whole process and they've known for quite some time."
This early description of the royal family's reception of Meghan and Harry is a far cry from their current distant and tenuous relationship, which was exacerbated by the media's portrayal of Markle. Both Harry and Meghan felt the royal family could have defended her better against the British tabloids.
In October 2019, Markle commented on the British media in a conversation with Tom Bradby, saying, "The biggest thing that I know is that I never thought that this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair."
Although there was clearly a fall out between Harry and Meghan and William and Kate, the details of their relationship remain largely unknown.
However, most questions will hopefully be answered in the biography Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan, and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, which is set to be released this August.
