Everyone loves a good Anthropologie dress, but it’s important to find one that flatters your figure. Here’s how:

If you have a pear-shaped figure…

A pear-shaped figure is wider on the bottom (hips) than it is on top (shoulders). A woman with a pear-shaped body has a round bottom and a well-defined waist, and her best assets are her shoulders and torso. If this sounds like you, any dress that shows off your waist and arms and adds a bit of volume to your upper body will be flattering. A strapless Anthropologie dress will accentuate your arms and also balance out your proportions. Anthropologie has lots of dresses with fun necklines like sweetheart, scoop and plunging, all of which are also good choices. In terms of the hem, try a dress with a hi-lo or tulip hem. These will slim out your bottom half.

If you have wide shoulders

If you have wide shoulders, a broad chest and a narrow waist and hips, you have an inverted triangle figure. Look for a dress that accentuates your legs and simultaneously softens your shoulders and chest. Short Anthropologie dresses will show off those great legs. If you go this route, choose a dress with long sleeves for balance – it’s best not to show off everything at the same time. Skip tops with boat necklines or spaghetti straps, as these will only draw attention to the top of your body.

If you have a rectangular figure

With waist, hip and shoulder widths that are relatively similar, women with rectangular figures should look for dresses that create curves and accentuate their arms and legs. Ruffled Anthropologie dresses or ones with other detailing–think ruching, collars and fringe–are great choices as they add dimension.

If you have an apple shape

Women who carry their weight above their narrow hips, with a broad back, ribs and shoulders, have apple-shaped figures. If this sounds like you, you’ll want to find a dress that accentuates your legs and makes your torso seem longer. A-line Anthropologie dresses are great options, as are dresses with empire waist or V-necks.

If you have an hourglass figure

Curvy, proportional shoulders and hips and a tiny waist are indications of an hourglass figure. Look for a dress that shows off these curves and keeps your proportions even without adding too much bulk. Anthropologie wrap dresses are a great choice, as are dresses with a-line cuts. Look for sweetheart or V-necks, both of which will highlight your curves without making your bust look bigger than it is.
