I’ve always been a pretty good sleeper; my problem is when I wake up. I’ve often spent the better part of the night in a twisted, contorted position that leaves my back and neck sore and in need of a good rubdown.
Things were really bad for me a few weeks back. I’d been falling asleep in such a way that made it painful for me to lift my arm. As luck would have it, around the same I received a notification that Liangtse Wellness had just opened a location in in NYC, so I jumped at the opportunity to pay them a visit.
If you’re unfamiliar with Liangtse Wellness, don’t feel bad. I was too, but my experience there was so amazing that I need to share it with the world. Liangtse Wellness is an incredible health, wellness and spa experience that harnesses traditional Chinese methods. Using these ancient methods as a foundation, Liangtse has created natural, unique treatments that really revive, restore and replenish.
For my session, I decided to go with a complete massage and the Moxa Healing Therapy. I don’t get massages nearly as often as I should, so this one was definitely in order. It was easily one of the best massages I’ve ever had because the therapist was so in tune to what my body needed. From the top of my head to the bottom of my feet, she used just the right amount of pressure and worked out tension I didn’t even realize I had.
The real highlight, though, was the Moxa Healing Therapy. This treatment combines the old and new for incredible restorative results. While you’re laying down, a machine heats dried medicinal herbs that are then gently placed on areas of the body that need extra healing. For me, it was my shoulders and arms and after about 15 minutes, the pain I was initially feeling had almost completely subsided. Even now, a few weeks later, the pain is still gone. The treatment seems so simple, but it’s so effective. I’m definitely making it part of my regular self-care routine whenever I’m feeling pain.
It’s also worth mentioning that the spa itself is gorgeous. Just as the treatments are inspired by traditional Chinese methods, the spa decor is as well. There’s soothing music, a relaxing color palette and they even offer you yummy tea and tasty treats after your treatment. If you’re in NYC, add Liangtse Wellness to your must-visit list. It’s now one of my favorites.
