A surgery (called Lumineyes) has emerged wherein patients can pay around $5,000 to have their brown eyes permanently turned blue using new laser technology.

In an interview, the doctor who pioneered the procedure (Dr. Gregg Homer) said:

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. A blue eye is not opaque; you can see deeply into it, while a brown eye is very opaque. I think there is something very meaningful about this idea of having open windows to the soul.

Wanna know what we think? We think you are a quack.

Some people might say, “People change their hair to different colors — why not eye color?” The answer to this: SURGICAL. PROCEDURE. Lasers! Pointed at your eyes! Electively! (And not to fix vision impairment). I suppose there are crazier surgeries out there, but the idea of tampering with something as crucial as your eyes just to have baby blues freaks me out a lot more than, say, electing to have butt implants.

Personally, we would use this procedure (I mean, we wouldn’t, but if we did) to get eyes like Kate Bosworth’s. Those X-Men multicolor peepers are simultaneously beautiful and frightening — why choose one when you can have both?

The surgery is not yet available in the US. In the meantime, however, you can test out how you would look post-op using colored contacts (like these from Acuvue).Or if you’re looking to correct your upper lids, lower lids, or both, check out this eyelid surgery option in Austin.
