It obviously goes without saying that sunscreen is a must when you’re headed to the beach. Dealing with a red and painful sunburn is no fun. But if you’re like me, and you’ve experienced a sunburn on your lips, then you know it’s so much worse than sunburn anywhere else. I neglected my lips during a trip to the Caribbean one year and not only did the sunburn cause my lips to swell, but the peeling and blistering afterwards was borderline traumatic.
I learned the hard way, which is why I’ve made it my personal mission to tell everyone I know about the importance of using sunscreen lip balm. It’s one of those areas that tons of people forget to protect when they’re out in the sun, but is so crucial because your lip skin is so delicate and sensitive.
Believe it or not, there are actually many options for protecting your lips from the sun’s rays, but one of my faves this summer is Sun Bum’s Tinted Sunscreen Lip Balm. I love that it has SPF 15, but also that it gives my lips a little color, too. It goes on smooth, keeps my lips soft and really doesn’t feel any different than other lip balms. Except, of course, that it’s keeping my lips protected.
I actually carry this lip balm with me at all times because I am obsessive about sun protection on my lips, but Sun Bum’s Tinted Sunscreen Lip Balm is clearly a no brainer at the beach. Apply it regularly (like once an hour) and you’ll never have to worry about a scary sunburn on your kisser. It comes in five subtle shades and is only $5.99, so I say buy one of each.
