The most important step in your skincare routine? That’s applying sunscreen.

It doesn’t sound fun—and as a redheaded girl who spent her childhood vacations covered in chalky, greasy, sunscreen-y residue, I totally get that. But applying all the retinol/Vitamin C/moisturizer in the world won’t make a difference if you’re continually damaging your skin with exposure to harmful UV rays. The great news is that sunscreens have made huge strides in my lifetime. No longer does applying sunscreen make you look like Casper the Friendly Ghost; instead, there are all kinds of formulas that prioritize hydration, tint, and texture as much as they defend against sun damage.

With summer right around the corner, now’s a great time to invest in a sunscreen-forward skincare product (yup, that’s a thing). I really like lightweight sunscreen serums, because they layer under makeup and won’t make you look greasy. There are big names on the market that you probably already know, like SuperGoop, but I have a list of favorite sunscreen serums with TruSkin SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen Facial Serum ($24.99) at the very top. Here’s why you should make it a staple in your own routine!

TruSkin is the brand behind the viral, best-selling Vitamin C Serum, and their sunscreen serum is likewise a must-have. Why? Its non-nano Zinc Oxide formula delivers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, but has a “featherlight feel” and absorbs quickly into the skin. Unlike other chemical sunscreens, it doesn’t harm coral reefs so you can feel good about it while you’re swimming in the ocean.

TruSkin markets the product as “sunscreen meets skincare,” and they’re not lying. The SPF Serum is enriched with antioxidants like Vitamin C, to minimize dark spots and clear/brighten your skin texture. Meanwhile, Sunflower Extract shields the skin against the visible effects of Blue Light, while the holy grail of skincare ingredients (Niacinamide, Ceramides, and Hyaluronic Acid) contributes to a hydrated, healthier, and firmer-looking complexion.

I love that this SPF Serum builds on TruSkin’s reputation for delivering multi-tasking products. It nourishes and protects—and users have even noticed that their skin looks brighter and more hydrated after a few weeks of usage. TruSkin SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen Facial Serum ($24.99) is way more than just sunscreen!

TruSkin SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen Facial Serum ($24.99) has an average of 4.9 stars out of 5 on Amazon, which is basically unheard of. People are gushing over it. “Super light, leaves my skin feeling great. Moisturizes well. So much better than any mineral sunscreen I’ve tried,” one person wrote. Another user called it “a really unique and excellent mineral sunscreen option,” adding, “I am super impressed with the ingredient list… It is a comprehensive product in that it includes vitamin C and I love the fact that it has the lightest and slightest tint to it.”

One thing to note if I’m being nitpicky: The tint does work for most skin tones, but some people did say that it doesn’t blend seamlessly for everyone. Hopefully, TruSkin will update its SPF serum to include a range of skin tint options that really do work for *everybody*.
