I never leave the house without concealer. It’s one of my must-have makeup items. However, sometimes I get a little over eager to cover my dark circles and apply way too much concealer under my eyes. When you apply too much concealer, it just looks creepy. Seriously, just Google “too much concealer” and you’ll see horrifying images of celebrities who have made the dreaded mistake. It kind of gives your makeup a “Trump” effect around the eyes and no one wants that.

But what do you do if you apply too much? First, don’t panic. There are a few easy fixes. If you have a makeup sponge or a beautyblender, you can use that to even out your concealer. Make sure the makeup sponge is clean and damp, then dab it over the concealer under it is blended. You can also take a tissue and dab it on the areas with too much concealer. The tissue should absorb the excess product. You can also use your finger to lightly pat the excess concealer and blend it into your foundation.

It’s no secret that you should go a shade lighter than your foundation when picking out concealer, especially if you are using it under your eyes. This is because you want to brighten your under eye area to make you look more awake. A lighter concealer shade will also help even out dark or red undertones in your skin. Just be careful that your concealer isn’t too light. This can highlight blemishes and other areas that you want to conceal.

Here’s another fun tip about concealer: You can use it to hide your makeup mistakes. Clean up stray mascara and eyeliner by dipping a cotton swab in a bit of cleaner and use it to cover any mistakes. This tip also works great if you mess up applying dark lipstick. Simply use concealer to help define your lips and prevent your lipstick from feathering.
