There’s nothing worse than having to get rid of your favorite shoes because of a few scuff marks. However, there are certain household items that can be an easy solution to this problem. Before you go tossing another pair of shoes (and money) into the garbage, check out the list below for different ways to remove scuff marks from shoes using items that are probably right in your bathroom.

Erasers: For vinyl shoes, rub a pencil eraser over the scuff mark. You can use this method for suede as well. Before using the eraser, use a small brush to lift any dirt that can be trapped in the fabric. Remember to brush in one direction, not back and forth, and then use the eraser to gently rub the scuff mark.

Vaseline: On patent leather shoes, rub a small amount of Vaseline on the scuff mark and simply buff out. Wipe it with a clean cloth to renew the shine.

Toothpaste: Remove scuffs from most canvas shoes using toothpaste and a toothbrush or cloth. Gently rub the mark with toothpaste and wipe clean with a damp cloth, then let air dry.

Nail Polish Remover: This method works on a bunch of different materials, but be sure to spot test an area first just to be sure. Dip a cotton ball or Q-tip in nail polish remover and buff out the scuff.

Dish Soap: Mix a little dish soap with warm water and use a cloth to gently scrub the mark away. Use a clean, dry cloth to blot away excess moisture and let air dry.

Windex: Perfect to clean the bottoms and edges of sneakers. Just spray a cloth or paper towel with Windex and rub scuff marks. Similarly, you can use a Magic Eraser.
