Women Are Swapping Their Boring Water For This Ice Pop Electrolyte Mix!

I’m sure it comes as no surprise that the modern day woman lugs around more than she should. A 15′ Macbook pro weighs in at 4.5 lbs, which is more than double the weight (2.2 lbs) your handbag should be. So if you bring your laptop to work, you’re already losing, without even factoring in the weight of the other handbag essentials you’re toting. Jeeeeeez.

We get it, our handbags are too heavy — they cause us pain and they’re exhausting to carry. True, true, but did you know that your handbag might also be giving you a tension headache?

According to Dr. Emily Kiberd, founder of the Urban Wellness Clinic, your handbag is totally messing with your head (and body!). Kiberd explains, “the tendency to carry everything on one shoulder creates asymmetry and tension within the body. Women frequently roll their shoulders forward when they hold a bag this way, which can change breathing and create tightness in the chest.” Say whaaat?!

So what can we do to fix it? Well, we can start by carrying our handbags correctly. Kiberd advises that you carry your handbag “on one hand with a straight arm and your shoulder packed down to your side, so you’re opening up across the chest and pulling your shoulder down and back. And keep your eyes on the horizon.”

In addition to Kiberd’s technique, try switching the side you carry your handbag every five minutes or so to get a more even distribution of weight. Annnnd (I mean, obvi, but easier said than done), clean out your bag. The accumulation of lots of little things (receipts, lose change, etc.) could account for more weight than you’d expect. Your purse should never be more than 10% of your weight — and that’s being super generous! So go on, ladies — time to stare at the horizon and get your purse-purge on!
