The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

Lipstick is the single best cosmetic invention of all time (sorry, mascara, you’re a close second). It adds an instant lift to our faces, makes our skin look better, and can even bring out the color in our eyes. A strong red lip can elevate jeans and sneakers and a nude gloss can bring a glittery gown down to earth. So, we all agree lipstick is magical. But did you ever stop and think: I bet my MAC Creme De Violet eyeshadow would look stunning on my lips? Lucky for you, using eyeshadow is totally doable!

A world without lipstick would be a sad place indeed, but there are few rules you can break when it comes to makeup and this is one you should boldly defy. In addition to saving you a ton of money on “long-wearing lipstick,” using your powder blush or eyeshadow as lipstick pretty much guarantees that your lips will benefit from pretty color all day long, thanks to the simple fact that powders won’t smudge as easily as your average lipstick or gloss.

To pull off this magical beauty feat, follow these simple steps courtesy of The Clyck:

1. Clean your lips. Wipe your lips clean of any trace of lipstick. It might help if you’ve applied lip balm beforehand so that, when you wipe your lips with a tissue, you are working with soft, hydrated lips.

2. Apply the eyeshadow. Dab your finger onto the powder blush or eyeshadow and pat it onto your lips. You could also use a makeup brush if you’re worried about having to clean your fingertips.

3. Add some shine. To add a bit of sheen that will last longer than gloss, apply a layer of beeswax or lip balm.

That’s all there is to it! But just in case you’re more of a visual person, here’s a quick video tutorial:

The best part of this eyeshadow/blush lipstick hack is that you can be your own makeup artist and create hues that will make strangers stop you on the street and ask, “What lipstick are you wearing?!” And won’t you feel like a beauty savant when you get to tell them your latest “lipstick” secret doesn’t even involve lipstick?
