Can’t stop, won’t stop. Coach has a new collaboration in the works with Alabama designer Billy Reid. The leather goods company has already collaborated with Krink and Saint James in 2013, plus who could forget Anna Sui for Coach in late 2012? Since Coach collaborates so often, I’m sure you’re wondering what makes this new partnership with Billy Reid different. Well, there’s a crocodile tote bag for a whopping $20,000, so yeah, not typical Coach prices. But this is all part of Coach’s plans to move the brand more towards luxury rather than mass market.
This capsule collection of men’s and women’s bags and accessories is a mix of Reid’s Southern style with classic elements from vintage Coach designs. Both designer bring their personal aesthetic to this collection by using some of their favorite and most well-known materials. The women’s line includes five clutch and bag styles, drawing inspiration from Coach and Reid’s own designs. We can expect a twill tote trimmed in vegetable-tanned leather, a blue leather messenger bag and of course, the black Louisiana crocodile tote (from a supplier Reid uses himself). The liner for some bags comes from a silk jacquard fabric created by Reid for his own collection, and a zippered wallet was designed with one of Reid’s personal favorites in mind.
Aside from the $20k crocodile totes, the rest of the collection ranges from $250 to $800. The Coach + Billy Reid collection will hit nine North American Coach flagship stores and will be available online this September. The women’s line will be exclusively carried at Billy Reid stores.
