The 2 Settings Apple Employees Say You Should Turn Off To Make Your iPhone Run Faster

Your iPhone is running at a snail’s pace and nothing you do seems to help. You’ve deleted a bunch of photos and videos, rebooted it more times than you can count, and have considered finally getting rid of Facebook. All of these actions can help (some more than others — deleting the Facebook app can certainly boost your battery). But, at the end of the day, there are specific settings on your phone that could be the root cause of phone slow-down.

“The most common causes of a slower phone are insufficient storage space, outdated software, excessive background app activity, too many installed apps, accumulation of cache and temporary files, degraded battery health, and intensive background system processes,” says Tech Expert Komal Fatima from Gaper.io.

Fatima says he turns off two settings on his iPhone to potentially improve performance and battery life.

Motion Effects and Parallax

iOS includes subtle motion effects and parallax animations that provide a sense of depth and movement on the home screen and within apps, Fatima says. “While visually appealing, these effects can slightly impact performance, especially on older devices,” he adds.

To Reduce Motion, follow these steps:

** Go to the “Settings” app on your iPhone.

** Scroll down and tap on “Accessibility.

** Tap on “Motion.”

** Toggle on the “Reduce Motion” option.

Automatic Downloads

When enabled, Fatima says this setting automatically downloads app updates, music, books, and other content across multiple devices linked to Apple ID. To disable Automatic Downloads, go to Settings > App Store > toggle Automatic Downloads off.

Additional Setting: It’s also a good idea to adjust Background App Refresh, according to Fatima, which can help boost your phone’s speed:

** Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone.
** Scroll down and tap on "General."
** Tap on "Background App Refresh."
** You can choose to disable background app refresh entirely by toggling off the "Background App Refresh" option at the top, or you can individually select which apps are allowed to refresh in the background.

You don’t have to just settle with a phone that is super slow and works inefficiently. Adjust these settings and you may just see incredible improvements in your device’s performance.
