"Although makeup is a very personalized experience, there are certain shades that look good on pretty much everyone, regardless of skin tone and hair color," says Julie Ricevuto at YouBeauty.com. When shopping for lipstick specifically, the most important thing to keep in mind is the undertone. "Lipsticks with blue undertones generally make teeth appear whiter and brighter, flattering most skin shades," Ricevuto says. "Be wary of orange undertones, since it can bring out the yellow in your teeth and wash out some skin tones, giving off a sickly look.
