Suave's products have been beauty staples for decades. Since the moment its inaugural product, a hair tonic, debuted in the 1930s, the company has continued building a strong following of beauty lovers who flip for its scented and hydrating body washes, award-winning haircare products, and even a line of kids' products that include fun shampoos, body washes, conditioners and detanglers.

Despite its numerous success stories and reputation in the industry as a classic, affordable brand that, rather than stick to what's familiar, routinely updates its line with innovative, fresh ingredients, Suave is relatively reserved about its accomplishments. That's why we're excited to bring you 7 things you never knew about Suave.

Suave helped revolutionize the way people wash their hair.

At a time when people washed their hair with laundry detergent or plain soap, Helen Curtis Industries, founded in 1927 as the National Mineral Company, developed Lanolin Crème Shampoo, one of the nation's first detergent-based shampoos. It was only available in beauty salons until its popularity prompted the company to create small retail sizes of the hair tonic for salon resale. This innovative product also precipitated the birth of Suave Hairdressing in 1937.

Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Shampoo

Suave's top-selling products are those "infused" with proteins and essential oils.

Suave is effectively competing in a market that can't get enough of essential oils and products infused with keratin. It's top-selling products include its Moroccan Infusion and Keratin Infusion collection of shampoos and conditioners. Suave considers Coconut Oil Infusion its number one innovation for 2016. The line, which includes an Coconut Infusion Oil Treatment, is selling extremely well year-to-date.

Suave boasts an award-winning "frizz fighting" product.

As temperatures rise and humid mornings threaten our hair's existence, it's comforting to know Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Smoothing Cream was voted the "best frizz fighter" in the People Beauty Awards. This weatherproof smoothing cream creates a weightless, invisible shield so your smooth look stays frizz-free, sleek and shiny for up to 72 hours. The key ingredients? A conditioning base with a blend of styling polymers and silicone. For best use, the folks at Suave told us to apply the cream to damp hair and then blow dry with a flat brush. Follow it up with the Luxe Style Infusion Anti-Humidity Hairspray for extra measure and hold.

Parents love Suave Kids products.

Because there's nothing worse than trying to convince children to wash their hair or attempting to detangle a little girl's thick mane of waves, it comes as no surprise that two Suave kids' products nabbed awesome reviews on MakeupAlley.com and Totalbeauty.com. Suave Kids Detangler Spray scored 4.6 out of 5 stars by consumers who rave about its fresh apple scent and ability to control frizzy hair (and, yes, they borrow the product on occasion). And Suave Kids 2-in-1 Hair Smoothers Shampoo received a 9.1 rating on Totalbeauty.com for being a "true sanity-saving" product that works on even course and curly hair.

Suave embraces the beauty of real women.

A number of haircare and body wash lines rely on famous spokeswomen to sing their praises. But Suave has been at the forefront of embracing real women and their beauty in its ads and on social media sites like Instagram. As a result, beauty Vloggers and YouTubers are taking centerstage as Suave's most famous hair role models.

Suave developed its #ShareBeauty campaign to help donate products to troops overseas.

As part of Suave's #ShareBeauty campaign, the brand celebrated all of the inspirational women serving our country, both at home and abroad, on Veteran's Day by providing tutorials on how to create military-inspired hairstyles and encouraging people to upload photos of their own 'dos. Military veteran and influential beauty vlogger Dulce Candy led the charge and created a how-to video with easy tips for her favorite military-inspired styles to help women everywhere create the looks. Suave also enlisted the help of both military families and every day civilians to join the celebration and share their military-inspired looks on social media by using the hashtag #ShareBeauty. A Suave spokesperson told SheFinds.com they were "very proud to be able to spread patriotic awareness and send 10,000 Suave products to our troops overseas."

Suave's most recent haircare collections are perfect for dry, thinning hair.

2016 was a big year for Suave. The brand released formulas for a Coconut Infusion and a Biotin Infusion collection. As many beauty enthusiasts already know, coconut oil helps fight frizz and deep conditions hair--and Suave's formula is said to penetrate hair for deep nourishment and visibly repair two years of damage. Another new system for the brand, the Biotin Infusion Collection, helps reduce hair breakage by 95% for dramatically less hair fall. Suave's representatives say they chose to infuse this vitamin in a new line of products because it is well-known for its superior hair strengthening benefits--and they wanted to make these luxurious benefits accessible to women everywhere.
