There's nothing we love more than a beauty brand that delivers the goods and has personality to spare. Benefit is many women's go-to label for highly-pigmented cosmetics, cheek and lip products that multitask, revolutionary skin balms and one of the best mascaras on the market. But how much do you actually know about the tongue-in-cheek brand that never fails to put a smile on our faces? Global Beauty Authority Annie Ford Danielson, daughter of Benefit co-founder Jean Ford, answered our questions about the company and its products and gave us 7 amazing facts you never knew about Benefit.

They believe beauty should be fun.

"We don't take ourselves too seriously, and we want our products and services to make women feel good about themselves," Ford Danielson says. "It's important for us to give customers quality products that deliver quick, instant results, but that also make them smile. In fact, our Benefit brand motto is, "Laughter is the best cosmetics."

Their very first product has a saucy history.

"Benetint is the very first product and it's what put us on the map today. It's known as the best selling liquid cheek and lip stain, but back in 1976 it was originally created to enhance the performance of an exotic dancer's nipples!"

Benetint and five other products are among Benefit's bestsellers.

The hit list includes BenetintThey're Real mascara, which Ford Danielson says is the number one best-selling prestige mascara in the U.S., They're Real Push-Up LinerThe POREfessional, which is the number one best-selling prestige face primer in the U.S., Hoola Matte Bronzer, the number one best-selling prestige bronzer in the U.S., and Gimme Brow Eyebrow Gel.

We can expect more great Benefit "core products" in the future.

"While I can't disclose any details, I can say that similar to the recent launches under They're Real and The POREfessional collections, more of our core products will be expanding," Ford Danielson says.

Benefit has its very own Marvel comics star.

Know that killer cartoon gal in the aqua trench coat who appears on certain Benefit products? She's kinda famous. "When we launched The POREfessional, we commissioned Marvel Comics to design SpyGal, the first ever beauty-inspired comic book hero," Ford Danielson says. "She's still found on all POREfessional products today!"

They have fun, hilarious video series called Glamouriety.

"For us, Glamouriety is more than a film," Ford Danielson says. "It's the story of our co-founders and the origin of the brand's DNA. The idea of the film is to give beauty gals a better understanding of the wild ride our co-founders took, literally from farm to fame, and how they were able to do it the with a lip-glossed smile on their faces." Did I mention how funny they are? "We want women to know that makeup should put a smile on your face; it should be fun and spontaneous to wear and apply. To this day, Benefit continues to be known for delivering instant beauty solutions that make women feel good."

Benefit is helping to empower women and girls.

"In 2015 we kicked off our first-ever global philanthropy program, the Bold is Beautiful project dedicated to empowering big dreams and bold moves in women and girls," Ford Danielson says. "Every dollar spent on brow wax services during the month of May will go to four charity partners: Girls Inc., Girl Develop It, Step Up and Dress for Success.  Last year we raised over $1.8M (a.k.a. 85,000 brows waxed in the US and $4M worldwide and we’re just getting started!)."

Want to get involved in Bold is Beautiful? Benefit, which Ford Danielson says is the largest employer of aestheticians in the world, makes it simple: there are 1,600 Benefit BrowBar locations worldwide that performed 5 million Benefit Brow services in 2014. Can you think of a better reason to get beautiful than for a good cause?
