If you’re an Android owner, you likely know how annoying it can be when it feels like your battery power is constantly draining.

When this starts to happen, and it’s like your battery is getting lower and lower, you might begin to think something is going on with the phone itself, like perhaps it’s getting old and burning out, and you need to replace it. Although numerous charging habits can help prevent this issue, you might also want to check what’s going on in your settings. We spoke with a tech expert about a setting in your Android you should check out to ensure your battery is not draining unnecessarily fast. Read more about it below.

The One Android Setting You Should Adjust To Save Battery Life

When you're using your Android and taking advantage of your social media apps, games, and more, you might assume that when you're not actively on them or have them open, they're shut off and not doing anything. However, that isn't necessarily the case.

According to Steven Athwal, a tech expert and the owner of The Big Phone Store in the UK, one of the biggest causes of a faster-draining battery is Android apps and app activity.

"The biggest battery drainer on Android is background app activity, so apps like Facebook, Maps, and TikTok constantly refresh, track your location, and preload data," he explained.

Therefore, you'll want to go into your settings and adjust your background usage settings to ensure your apps aren't taking up as much of your battery.

"You can stop this by going into Settings, Battery, Background usage limits, and setting unused apps to 'sleep,'" explains Athwal. "Which'll prevent them from running when you're not using them, and can extend your battery life by roughly 30%."

Additional Steps You Can Take To Avoid Battery Drain

In addition to changing the background usage Android setting, you can also follow a few simple positive charging habits in order to protect your device's battery and keep it as youthful as possible.

For instance, it's suggested that instead of using cheaper, third-party charging cables, you invest in higher-quality ones made by your phone's manufacturer. Additionally, if you can, avoid plugging in your phone when it hits below 20% battery life, and try to catch it sooner. No one is perfect, and if you can't always follow these tips, it's not the end of the world.

However, being a little more conscious about the settings that can affect your battery life and how you go about charging your device can make a bigger difference than you think.
