It may not be very well known, but selenium is crucial to a well-working metabolism.

Your body does not require a lot of selenium — and, in fact, the daily recommended value is only 70 micrograms. If you are planning on taking a selenium supplement it’s important to speak with a doctor and make sure you are taking the right amount for your body and age.


You can also find selenium in a number of foods — like Brazil nuts, canned tuna, beef, chicken breast, pasta, eggs, and oatmeal. Eating a well-balanced diet that includes these foods is an excellent way of ensuring your body gets enough of this important nutrient without the need to take it in supplement form.
